Tips for Fireworks and Thunderstorms (Dogs and Cats)
~Why are pets afraid of fireworks?
-Dogs are afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms because it triggers their nervous systems and this causes them to become nervous and anxious.
-Cats usually display their fear by hiding. When disturbed from their hiding spot, they exhibit abnormally aggressive behavior and retaliate against their owner.
~How to Keep Furry Friends Safe:
FOR DOGS:
-Keep a safe space for your dog, whether it’s a room without windows or a crate.
-Create distractions for your dog (play with squeaky toys so it draws your dogs attention away from the loud noises going on outside).
-Play calming music to drown out the sound of the thunder or fireworks.
Thundershirts help with anxious dogs, and can be used any time when your dog is anxious. (LINK FOR THUNDERSHIRTS: https://www.thundershirt.com/ or on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ThunderShirt-Anxiety-Jacket-Heather-Large/dp/B0028QK6EY)
FOR CATS: (Same as for dogs)
-Keep a safe space for your cat, whether it’s a room without windows or a cat carrier.
-Distract your cat with toys, playing music softly in the room your cat is in.
